The Big Friendly Giant

Twenty-four feet tall with enormous ears that can hear everything, even ants talking. He wears a leather waistcoat and sandals and carries a suitcase of dream jars.

He kidnaps Sophie but turns out to be the only nice giant. Together they trick the Queen of England into helping them capture all the child-eating giants.

He becomes braver. At the start he hides from the other giants but by the end he stands up to them. He also learns to read and write properly.
