Charlotte A. Cavatica

A large grey spider about the size of a gumdrop, with eight legs. She sits in her web in the doorway of the barn cellar.

She becomes Wilbur’s best friend and saves his life by writing words in her web. At the fair she makes an egg sac with 514 eggs, but she is too weak to go home and she dies at the fairgrounds.

She doesn’t really change but everyone else changes because of her. Wilbur learns what a true friend is. She says a life spent helping a friend is a life worth living.
